Golden Gate Ferry Service to Run as Scheduled

The Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District has announced that it will run on its regular schedule on Friday.

Officials had canceled Larkspur and Sausalito ferry service in response to a threatened one-day strike by ticket agents.

The Inlandboatmen Union’s contract expired at midnight on Thursday and union officials released a statement Thursday afternoon calling for a one-day strike.

“Replacing the ticket agents with machines eliminates the only real customer service available to the public,” said Marina V. Secchitano, regional director of union. “Meanwhile, the ferry division has just announced another 5 percent increase in its fares. They are asking the public to pay more for less service, and that isn’t fair.”

The Golden Gate ferry system carries about 6,000 passengers every weekday.
