Leave Those Cars at Home

Thursday marks the Bay Area’s 17th annual Bike to Work Day. All nine Bay Area counties are participating in the celebration, which is part of National Bike Month.

Organizers set up “Energizer Stations” along Bay Area county commuter routes where bikers can stop for refreshments, giveaways and bicycling information.

There is also a “team event” for companies that have multiple participants in the event, part of the “Team Bike Challenge.”

According to a 2007 American Community Survey, about 43,000 Bay Area residents use their bikes as their primary means to get to work each day. But organizers expect more than 100,000 to participate on Thursday.
