Theophilus London, Contemporary Soul at 330 Ritch

Have you heard of Theophilous London? Well allow me to catch you up on the indie artist who will be headlining his first San Francisco show this Wednesday at an event tilted Showtime at the Ritch at 330 Ritch.

London is an alternative rap artist from Brooklyn whose genre-bending approach draws from a range of styles, from soul-pop and post-punk to electro and contemporary R&B.

Citing influences like Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, and Prince, London released two critically acclaimed mixtapes that circulated the blogosphere, Jam! (2008), and The Charming Mixtape (2009), and released his album debut in 2009 called The Charming Man, a stylistically wide-ranging full-length effort featuring an eclectic cast of vocal guests. The most recent body of work by London, is his new mixtape, I Want You, a beautiful compilation of contemporary soul music, meant to be turned on right after the lights get dimmed with that special someone. My favorite track is the title track, a remake of the Marvin Gaye classic (listen below).

Theophilous is fresh off performances at SXSW, so he should be more than ready to rock at 330 Ritch.

Opening for London will be Alexander Spit, The 87 Stick Up Kids, C Plus, DuckWorth, and DJ King Most.

Tickets are already on sale here.
