Today is National Cheese Lover’s Day!

That’s right Cheese Lovers; today is YOUR day. And while this hol[e]y cheese day has not made the official list of holiday observances in the U.S., there are plenty of ways to show your appreciation for cheese:

  1. The Cheese School of San Francisco.  The only independent institution of its kind dedicated entirely to helping people maximize their enjoyment and appreciation of cheese. Check out the curriculum of classes and tasting events that satisfy food lovers of all types: Class Schedule
  2. Cheese Shops.  The great culinary appreciation in San Francisco and the Bay Area allows easy access to both local and artisan cheeses, as well as a broad spectrum of international selections. Swing by some of these cheese shops today: Say Cheese (Cole Valley); Cheese Plus (Russian Hill); Cowgirl Creamery at the Ferry Plaza (Embarcadero); Cheese Boutique (Glen Park; Inner Sunset); Country Cheese (Lower Haight)
  3. Fondue. The French and Swiss dish of melted cheese served in a communal pot over a small burner (rechaud), and eaten by dipping long-stemmed forks with bread into the cheese. Share a cheesy romantic dinner at The Matterhorn Swiss Restaurant  (Marina/Cow Hollow), Fondue Cowboy (SOMA), or Melt! (North Beach)

Tackle your own cheese fest tonight by creating favorite dishes with this calcium enriched treat. Buy a nice bottle of wine to pair with the cheeses sold at the shops listed above or arrange a cheese related potluck with friends. Go indulge!
