YPFP Social Hour w/ Global Ties

SEE EVENT DETAILS

YPFP-SF is excited to help host this great social hour with Global Ties, a San Francisco is a local non-profit, community-based organization working to advance foreign policy and citizen diplomacy through professional and cultural exchange programs. We bring over 900 visitors to the San Francisco Bay Area annually under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The mission of the IVLP is to offer current and rising international leaders the opportunity to experience the richness and diversity of American political, economic, social and cultural life through carefully designed short-term exchanges that reflect participants’ professional interests and the foreign policy objectives of the current United States administration.

Since IVLP’s inception 75 years ago, more than 200,000 International Visitors have engaged with Americans through the program, including more than 335 current or former Chiefs of State or heads of government. Notable alumni include Margaret Thatcher, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Indira Gandhi.

From August 15-18, Global Ties SF will be hosting a group of 9 young emerging leaders from the U.K. They include social media influencers, activists, entrepreneurs, rising politicians, artists, and musicians. Their program, “American Values for Social Media Experts,” seeks to engage young British leaders in important political, social, and economic issues affecting Americans today. In San Francisco, they will be learning about tech responsibility surrounding issues of mis/disinformation; LGBTQ issues, rights, and movements; urban housing and homelessness; and women’s issues and rights.

The Social Hour is an opportunity for young Americans and Brits to network and learn more about shared goals and issues surrounding their respective communities. The hope is that this program will foster even stronger relationships between our countries than already exists.
