YLC Event with TechCrunch COO Ned Desmond

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join us for our next Young Leaders Circle monthly event TechCrunch COO Ned Desmond, where he will deliver his critique of online news media business - based on his years of experience in the field - and discuss the green shoots today that suggest how those businesses will recover and, with any luck, improve the budgets available for great journalism. We'll also look at the debate raging today around the responsibility of big platforms like Facebook and Google to suppress "fake news" and bad actors on their platforms.
Ned Desmond is the chief operating officer at TechCrunch, and until 2015, CrunchBase, which Ned spun out as a venture-banked company. Ned was a journalist for many years and served as Time magazine's bureau chief in New Delhi and Tokyo; he was also a Fortune senior correspondent and founding editor of a now forgotten business magazine called eCompany Now. He first snuck into the business world in 1996, when he was an early employee at search engine Infoseek and established Infoseek Japan. From 2003-2008, he led Time Inc.'s digital businesses, and jumped ship in 2008 to start his own social media project, GoFishn, which after three years of hard, hard work went the sad way of most startups. Ned is a graduate of Amherst College and The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
