Yerba Buena Day

SEE EVENT DETAILS
They say sunshine is the greatest disinfectant so we're throwing one of the biggest, sunniest, funnest parties of the year in the beautiful outdoors all in Yerba Buena! And like sunshine, it's all for free.

Starting at Noon: Start with a neighborhood art scavenger hunt in Yerba Buena. Pick up your free booklet at the American Bookbinder's Museum and make your way through the neighborhood finding hidden works of art you've probably never noticed.

12:30 pm: The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival features The Cabanijazz Project performing soulful original Latin dance music by bandleader Javier Cabanillas

2:30 pm: Take a free walking tour of the neighborhood from Market Street's bustling past to the mysterious side alley's secrets where you can learn about the district's complicated, always interesting, and ever-changing landscape.

4:00 pm: The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, The Contemporary Jewish Museum, and the Museum of the African Diaspora present Diasporic Futurism: Taking Up (Outer) Space, a multidisciplinary live performance with visual art and music. This event will feature the latest iteration of an ongoing project by GLTTR with DJ Nina Sol, Leah King, Trovarsi, Juan Carlos Rodriguez Rivera, Afatasi The Artists, Sandy Vazquez, and Black Fairy Dust. Also, join host Nia McAllister for an afternoon of spoken word showcasing a phenomenal lineup of past featured poets including Daniel B. Summerhill, Darius Simpson, Donté Clark, James Cagney, Jeanne Powell, Landon Smith, Lyn Patterson, Maud Alcorn, Tayleur Crenshaw, Teju Adisa-Farrar, Reggie Edmonds, Wanda Sabir,
and Yeva Johnson.

ALSO at 4:00 ...

4:00 pm: The Children's Creativity Museum presents Hip Hop For Change who will guide you through the history and hype of Hip Hop culture with an interactive beat-making workshop. MC, Producer, DJ, and Education Director UnLearn The World will show you how to program drums, sample your favorite songs, create original melodies, and arrange an original beat using professional equipment. Also, Hip Hop For Change will be setting the vibes with their very own DJ pop-up!

And if 4:00 didn't have enough, you can head over to 111 MINNA GALLERY for their art reception featuring the work of PAINT THE VOID, a group of local artists who have changed the face of San Francisco during the past year.

6:00 pm:
111 Minna Gallery present The Blue J's and La Gente SF. The Blue J's rendition of bluegrass and Americana are a warm and rich tapestry of vocal talent and La Gente mixes up cumbia rhythms with fun melodies and explosive sounds.
