Lydia Nakashima Degarrod, Ph.D. is a pioneer in combining visual art and anthropology and creating works that blur the line between these disciplines. She has exhibited nationally and internationally. She has received awards from Fulbright-Hayes, NEH, California Council for the Humanities, and post-doctoral positions from Harvard and University of Virginia. She was Artist in Residence at the DeYoung Museum, Center for Art and Public Life, and Djerassi Resident Artists Program. Through visual art and ethnography, she explored images of heaven, miracles and injustice, birds and humans, exile, and the emotional traces of dreams. She teaches at the California College of the Arts.
