Xenodrome

Theater

The Exiled was first work-shopped in Tucson, Arizona in 1998, where it caused a two-hour fight between the cast and members of the audience over whether the play had any meaning. It then went on to be optioned as a screenplay for a diverse number of production houses before its author pulled the plug on the whole deal because the executive producer was a crazy X-treme sports star junkie, Christian Bale started sending people hate mail claiming it was one of the most pretentious scripts he’d ever read over his morning coffee, and the script doctor from Sophie’s Choice told Stuart he would need to change the ending to make the story less “misogynist”. The climate just didn’t seem ripe for what he had only intended as a sweet little date comedy with a kick in the stomach. Apparently, people preferred American Pie.
