MAJUB‘S JOURNEY

This documentary reconstructs the fate of Majub bin Adam Mohamed, born 1904 in Daressalam. During World War I, Majub and his father are part of the askari soldiers – the colonial protection force – fighting in East Africa against the British under General Lettow-Vorbeck. In 1929, Majub bin Adam Mohamed travels to Berlin, in order to demand his pay and a medal he earned as a front-line soldier. The agency denies his request, and he starts to work as a travelling performer and bit-part player during the Weimar Republic. Some of his roles include Zarah Leander’s driver, Hans Albers’ servant and Heinz Rühmann’s liftboy.
