The series, a docudrama based on diary entries and letters from people of all walks of live in Germany, France, England, Italy, Austria, Russia and the USA during World War I, tells the story of seven women and seven men, among them Käthe Kollwitz and Ernst Jünger. Real dialogues adapted from diaries and letters create a strong sense of realism in this movie filmed in Germany, France and Canada, interwoven with archive material, at times dubbed or colored. History of World War I told in a new and unique perspective: fourteen different perspectives of people who lived through it.
