Writing the Mind Alive

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists (see times)
Join us for "Writing the Mind Alive," a four-week introduction to the Proprioceptive Writing® (PW) method. No prior writing experience is necessary.

Everyone is welcome--no prior writing experience is required. The class will meet on four Saturdays from January 11th - February 1st, 2pm-5pm.

Most of us live our lives without the time or tools to reflect on our experience. PW is a 20-minute writing meditation that enables deep reflection on inner thought. An empowering practice, PW can be used for therapeutic and creative purposes.

What is it like to really hear your inner thoughts? Unlike ordinary hearing, it's like entering a world where you know yourself differently than you did before. Following the three simple rules of PW opens a gate to this wondrous inner space. Through PW, you learn to hear inner thought as voice, and engage your mind's hidden proprioception sense--its capacity to know itself. The more you immerse yourself in this practice, the further you travel from limiting self-judgments, and the greater your confidence to trust yourself.

About Linda Trichter Metcalf

Linda Trichter Metcalf, hailed as a pioneering thinker in the field of writing education," received her MA and PhD in literature from New York University. In 1978 Metcalf and her partner, Dr. Tobin Simon, left their academic positions at Pratt Institute to found the Proprioceptive Writing Center--first in Portland ME, then New York City, then Oakland CA --all the time continuing to develop and deepen PW theory and practice. In 2002, they published Writing the Mind Alive: The Proprioceptive Method for Finding Your Authentic Voice (Ballantine), enabling PW to be practiced throughout the world. Currently, Linda teaches PW practice locally, through long-distance small conference calls, and at retreat centers, such as 1440 Multiversity, Santa Sabina, and Kripalu. In addition, she directs the PW teacher-training program.
