“To make a great film you need three things – the script, the script and the script.” -- Alfred Hitchcock
Bring your story ideas/scripts and learn how to take them from inception to production!
Some of the things we'll cover in this interactive workshop*:
We'll go over the basics of writing a screenplay, from brainstorming, pre-writing, execution and revision, to submitting to screenwriting festivals and producing your own work
Discuss the process for writing effective dialogue, using elements from improv (writers are improv artists -- in their head, of course -- we'll cover how to bridge that gap)
Break down the three act structure (which applies to short projects as well) and how to write for it
Look at the shooting scripts from a few successful films, and deconstruct what makes them work so well
Take some of the story ideas brought to the workshop (or create our own as a group), and take it through the steps of prewriting
Engage in active writing story development exercises/games
Discuss writing for a budget and how the industry is changing the craft.
And much more!
*Please note that this first workshop is part of a series
