Founded in 1987 by Philip Schultz, The Writers Studio welcomes beginning and advanced students to ongoing writing workshops whose sole purpose is to help fiction writers and poets discover and nurture their own voices. Hailed by The New York Times as "the most personal of the programs," The Writers Studio is founded on the belief that when the desire to write is strong enough, anyone can learn the craft necessary for full creative expression.
Mark Peterson leads the San Francisco school. Mark is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz and an experienced editor, poet and fiction writer. Mark studied in the NYC Writers Studio master class, and trained in the Writers Studio method under Philip Schultz, founder and director.
The San Francisco program now boasts four classes and four levels. Classes meet once a week for 10 weeks at the Fort Mason Center, located at the intersection of Marina Boulevard and Buchanan Street in the Marina district.
