e Night Writer Society on April 5, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM for an evening workshop of writing inspired by scent. This is not your grandma's scent workshop: perfumer Yosh Han and travel and food writer Alison Bing will reactivate taste and smell in modern writing, ridding you of olfactory clichés and re-teaching you how to write with the senses.

Founded on the principles of camaraderie and “i before e” (except after c), The Night Writer Society gathers at convivial literary workshops, seminars, and soirees held at 826 Valencia. Each event begins with mingling, wine, and storytelling, leading into the main event. YOSH HAN

San Francisco based perfumer Yosh Han specializes in vibrational perfumery. Using the finest ingredients from all over the world, each fragrance resonates with principles of chakra energy and numerology. Her eponymous collection is dedicated to creating a full wardrobe of perfumes–fragrant accessories for inner radiance. These can be found at exclusive retailers like Barneys New York, Lucky Scent, Saks Fifth Avenue Dubai, Isetan Tokyo, and other haute perfumeries.

In the intimate setting of her home studio, she offers workshops and bespoke perfumery for private clients and designs aromatic concepts for event-based productions and other artistic companies. She consults for creative agencies on olfactory trends and perfume culture.

ALISON BING

Alison Bing is a roving food and wine writer, a regular contributor to Cooking Light and the author of over twenty-five guidebooks for Lonely Planet/BBC Worldwide, including top-selling guides to foodie destinations. Besides launching four successful guidebook series for Lonely Planet as an author and publishing consultant, she has also developed foodie iPhone apps, created the content voice for custom publisher Blurb's Webby-winning website, and consulted on content development for major cross-platform media brands, including BBC, PBS, NBC, National Geographic, Univision, the Sundance Institute and American Documentary Inc. Her previous publishing credits include art and how-to books for Chronicle Books and Barnes & Noble titles on writing, popular science, and the Words of Wisdom series, as well as four years of weekly arts columns for San Francisco Chronicle's online edition, SFGate.com. She covers global arts and culture for The Guardian (UK), Flash Art, Sculpture, Architectural Record and CMYK as well as NPR, PBS, ABC, NBC and other news media.

The Night Writer Society is a group of Proud literary arts enthusiasts. Founded on the principles of Camraderie and “i before e” (except after c) these eminent men and women gather at convivial literary workshops, seminars, and soirees held in a pleasing environment. We welcome writers of all levels to join us in our meetings to hone their craft in blissful Unity. The Night Writer Society meets once a month at 826 Valencia.

ABOUT 826 VALENCIA:

826 Valencia was founded ten years ago by author Dave Eggers and educator Nínive Calegari. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Its services are structured around the belief that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. 826 Valencia currently provides drop-in tutoring, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners and assistance with student publications. Drawing from a volunteer base of more than 1,000, which includes many teachers, writers and journalism professionals, 826 Valencia unites eager students with eager helpers. 826 Valencia’s pirate store serves as a gateway to the community and offers all of its proceeds in support of student programming. https://www.826valencia.org
