Portola Celebrates the 2014 World Cup with Outdoor Events
Summer Game Screenings in Recently-Unveiled Burrows Park

The Portola Neighborhood Association (PNA) and the Portola community are hosting a family-friendly festival to celebrate the 2014 World Cup on two upcoming summer afternoons. The first-of-its-kind World Cup in the Portola Festival will feature the United States and Portugal game and the final tournament game, amidst various performances and food offerings. Sponsored by the SF Office of Economic and Workforce Development and Bank of the West, the events will be located at the newly renovated Burrows Pocket Park.

The biggest festival highlights include the outdoor screenings of the Team USA vs. Team Portugal game on Sunday, June 22 and the FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday, July 13. The opening event will take place from 12-5 PM, with the game kickoff at 3 PM, and the July event will feature the game from 12-3 PM. Burrows Pocket Park will be barricaded off into a safe fun zone with games and activities, including martial arts performances and face painting. Live music from a DJ and percussionists will provide further entertainment for the opening event afternoon.

To keep the festivities going between events, a “World Cup Passport” will be available for all interested participants. Obtain stickers from all twelve participating businesses to win exclusive prizes and to enter a raffle at the July 13 final game screening.

The Portola Neighborhood Association consists of local residents, property owners, and merchants. It is dedicated to helping San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood develop as a community while building economic opportunities for the San Bruno Ave business corridor . Events like the World Cup Festival unite the rich and diverse community and celebrate the spirit of the Portola.
