World Coffee Research Sustainability

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join us for a Talk on Sustainability in Coffee with Greg Meenahan!

“Sustainability”
What does it mean?
The expression “sustainable coffee” is undergoing a transformation.  Where previously the supplier/roaster end of the supply chain defined this term, producers are now lending their voice.  We’ll examine the 3 pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social, and learn how to evaluate coffee sustainability efforts for priority, failure risk, and impact.
About the Presenter:
Greg Meenahan
Greg is the Partnership Director for World Coffee Research, the world’s first global, collaborative agricultural R&D organization for coffee. A communications and fundraising expert, Greg’s career has been focused on removing barriers to human potential and economic stability. World Coffee Research was the first organization to bring widespread attention to the fact that coffee is an orphan crop: grown in poor countries, consumed in rich countries, and under researched in both. With some of the most vulnerable people on the planet growing one of the most vulnerable crops on the planet, it became clear that agricultural R&D could lift millions out of poverty, and could prevent many from falling into it. Since its foundation in 2012, World Coffee Research has formed collaborative partnerships with industry leaders, coffee organizations, NGOs, and governments to execute applied R&D for genetic improvement and agronomic advancements for coffee. Greg is coordinating the global, precompetitive support for this effort.

This talk is a two part series -  Head to the The Crown the following day to listen to a talk about Empowering Producers with Greg Meenahan.
