Celebrate Winter Solstice with the building and launching of a tule spirit boat. This time-honored ritual is celebrated in both North and South America. This form of the tradition was brought from Lake Titicaca in Peru to our Circling San Francisco Bay community decades ago, and no doubt echoes similar native ceremonies here when tule reeds bordered most of San Francisco Bay. The hollow tule reeds helped in the purification of the water, playing an important role in keeping the Bay in good health.
We'll come into ritual space, and build the boat together, honoring spirits of place and the bonds of community. As we use these ancient plant forms, we'll welcome their wisdom toward the purification of our own choices of actions and thoughts for the coming year.
We'll give thanks for the personal blessings in our lives, and invite its power to seed our lives with remembering the joy, the privilege and challenge of being alive at this time of transformation of life on the planet.
Finally, we'll launch the boat on the outgoing tide, sending the bio-degradable boat and its contents as an offering to the waters, the center of the sacred sites that surround the Bay.
This gathering is open to all by donation ($25-50 suggested). Please confirm with me directly if you plan to attend, and I'll give you directions to the mid-Peninsula home for the building of the boat. We'll share a communal pot-luck feast through-out the day.
