David Lynch meets ER in this stylish thriller. Who Killed Bambi? marks the feature debut of director Gilles Marchand, best known for his screenplay for the art-house hit With a Friend Like Harry, and it’s an auspicious debut. Missing drugs, dying patients and strange clues lead a timid and seemingly delicate young nurse into a deadly cat-and-mouse game played out in a deceptively serene hospital. Eschewing cheap genre tricks, Who Killed Bambi? builds a palpable sense of menace with a languid sense of the inexorable. Sophie Quinton shines in her feature debut as the young nurse Isabelle, and Laurent Lucas (Harry’s ‘friend’) is suitably suave as the sinister Dr. Phillip who is hiding something. Phillip insists on calling Isabelle “Bambi,” because of her fainting spells. There is an undercurrent of attraction between them, but Isabelle begins to suspect there’s something off about the good doctor...
