What dreams for the Earth After Tomorrow?Science (fiction) & Tech debating on climate change
How do literature, tech and science envision after tomorrow in the context of global warming? How do they tackle this issue? Which pragmatic or crazy solutions do they imagine or dream about?
Organized in the context of the After Tomorrow cultural season, the event will consist in an interdisciplinary panel moderated by Shana Rappaport from Green Biz, crossing the points of views of science fiction, entrepreneurial world and scientific research on climate change.
The moderator:Shana Rappaport is Director of Strategic Programs for Green Biz group. She has worked actively and passionately for over a decade as a community organizer and industry convener to advance sustainability solutions. In her role as Director of Strategic Programs, Shana leads GreenBiz’s work with and around cities, runs the VERGE Accelerate program for entrepreneurs and is helping scale and grow the VERGE community worldwide.
The speakers:Sylvie Denis is considered by literary critics as the “Grande Dame of French science-fiction”, both thanks to her novels and short stories and to her contributions as a science-fiction essayist, critic, anthologist, editor and translator. Her works question new technologies and their impact on our societies. She received the Prix Solaris in 1998 for L’Anniversaire de Caroline, the Rosny Aîné Award in 2000 for Dedans-Dehors and the Julia Verlanger Award in 2004 for Haute Ecole. She is currently working on a new novel exploring the themes of climate change and migration.
Zoé Bezpalko is Sustainability Strategy Manager at Autodesk, building solutions for the design and manufacturing industries to achieve their sustainability goals and have a positive impact on the planet. She defines herself as an “eco-imagineer”.
Leslie Field is Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. She teaches a seminar course in "Engineering and Climate Change”, reflects on mitigation, control or remediation of the effects of climate change, and is the founder of the non-profit organization Ice911.
A high school student from the Designtech high school of Palo Alto (name TBC).
