In our current exhibition "Weltstadt - Who Creates the City", the Goethe-Institut presents numerous ideas and projects from local initiatives, activists and interest groups from cities around the world, who are facing urban challenges. Though this exchange of diverse visions, innovative, creative and sustainable ways of developing the future of their cities are created. To add depth and local taste to this unique exhibition, we are hosting a panel discussion with four of San Francisco’s major city players discussing their ideas, insight and approaches on the San Francisco of tomorrow: "Weltstadt San Francisco - planning strategies & prospectives of a growing city".
Egon Terplan is SPUR's regional planning director. He is a specialist in economic development, land use, transportation, government reform and regional policy. He has authored or co-authored dozens of reports and policy studies. Egon is a frequent speaker and lecturer and also teaches in the Urban Affairs graduate program at the University of San Francisco.
David Baker is principal of David Baker Architects, a progressive architecture firm in San Francisco that creates acclaimed buildings in urban environments. Formed by David Baker in 1982, DBA is known for exceptional housing, creative site strategies, designing for density, and integrating new construction into the public realm. DBA has a passion for and deep understanding of the power of humane and respectful environments to transform neighborhoods and elevate the lives of individuals and families.
David Beaupre is senior waterfront planner at the Port of San Francisco. He is responsible for developing and maintaining planning and land use policies adopted by the Port Commission. Within the policy framework of the Waterfront Plan, the Planning & Development Division works with the community to develop detailed planning studies for a variety of projects. David works on a broad range of planning & development projects, ranging from public parks and maritime infrastructure to commercial and adaptive reuse of historic resources along the waterfront.
Host: Tito Patri is a registered landscape architect. He has received grants and awards from the Ford Foundation, the Conservation Foundation, the Natural Resource Council of America, the AIA and the ASLA. He currently serves on design review committees for the University of California and The Sea Ranch and is working with the National Park Service helping to prepare design guidelines for Yosemite National Park.
After the panel discussion we are showing the award-winning documentary “Concrete Love: the Böhm Family”.
