March 13-29, 2020; Fri-Sat at 8pm; Sun at 2pm
Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) today announced the cast for its upcoming production of Kenneth Lonergan's Pulitzer Prize-nominated The Waverly Gallery, a masterful piece of theater about a group of people who fight the inevitable with the only weapon they have-love. The Waverly Gallery, directed by Mike Reynolds, plays for nine performances only March 13-29; for tickets and information visit
https://www.ccct.org or call 510-524-9012.
The cast of The Waverly Gallery includes Scarlett Hepworth as Gladys, Ian Wilcox as her grandson Daniel, Kelly Rinehart as her daughter Ellen, Michael Sally as Ellen's husband Howard, and Russell Nauman as the painter Don.
Powerfully poignant and frequently hilarious, Oscar winner Kenneth Lonergan (Manchester by the Sea)'s autobiographical play covers two years in the life of Daniel and his family of "liberal Upper West Side atheistic Jewish intellectuals." Chief among them is his grandmother Gladys, a generous, chatty, and feisty old-school lefty and social activist and longtime owner of a small art gallery in Greenwich Village. The management wants to replace her less-than-thriving gallery with a coffee shop. The play explores her fight to retain her independence and the subsequent effect of her decline on her family, especially her grandson. More than a memory play, The Waverly Gallery captures the humor and strength of a family in the face of crisis.
Single tickets for The Waverly Gallery range from $11 to $32, with discounts available for groups of 15 or more. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm. All performances take place at CCCT's intimate and fully accessible theatre in the Flynn building located at 951 Pomona Avenue (cross street Moeser) in El Cerrito. Free parking is available in the adjoining lot. Tickets may be purchased online at
