Photography and Music. The idea that these two are closely related is unexpected. Music exists as sound over time and photographs exist as light without time. Both, however, are compositions created to convey an experience to the audience. Every note matters as much as every visual detail. Matthew Washburn pursues them both.
He moved from his hometown of Hanford, California to study music at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. During his final semester at UOP, he found he had an interest in photography. He arrived for graduate school at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and spent the summer exploring the city with his camera. Eventually, he began photographing fellow students at the Conservatory.
Since then, he's made a career of photography.
