Welcome Lakota Grandmothers from Cheyenne River Reservation South Dakota at the

Madonna Thunder Hawk and other Lakota grandmothers from South Dakota are coming to the Bay Area in March. The 1000 Grandmothers are hosting their trip. We would love your to be part of our celebration.
Madonna Thunder Hawk is a veteran of the occupation of Alcatraz and a founding member of the American Indian Movement (AIM). She was one of the leaders of the survival school during the 1973 struggle at Wounded Knee and was part of the group that started the Sacred Stone Camp at Standing Rock. She's a founder of the Lakota Peoples' Law Project.
Warrior Women is the story of mothers and daughters fighting for indigenous rights in the American Indian Movement of the 1970s. The film unveils not only a female perspective of history, but also examines the impact political struggles have on the children who bear witness.
Together, Madonna and her daughter Marcy fought for Native rights in an environment that made them more comrades than mother-daughter. Both women are at the forefront of Native issues.
The Lakota grandmothers are working to weatherize and solarize homes on their reservation to limit the use of fossil fuels creating climate chaos. The 1000 Grandmothers are partnering with them to support this effort for climate justice in a community so that people in the frontline communities that have suffered the most from climate change will not to have to choose between heating their homes and having enough food. It will relieve them so that the Lakota Grandmothers will be able to focus more on their crucial effort to get their grandchildren back; many are being adopted out or placed in non-Native foster homes.
Together let us imagine a world where ALL the seven-plus billion people on this earth lived in homes adequately insulated and heated (or cooled) by renewable energy.
