Sonoma State University Department of Theatre Arts & Dance present "Waiting in Seoul Walking in Tokyo"
A collaborative, contemporary dance piece exploring Japanese, South Korean and American Contemporary Dance aesthetics - "Waiting in Seoul Walking in Tokyo" is performed by 21 Sonoma State University Dance Program students taking audiences on a journey through the streets of Seoul, Tokyo and San Francisco with movement, imagery, cityscape sounds and original music - bringing a sense of anonymity and connection that one experiences as an adventurer/traveler.
“Waiting in Seoul Walking in Tokyo” was created by faculty and acclaimed guest choreographers with SSU student dancers through Global Dance Stamp, a contemporary dance collaboration between the United States and Asia and semester-long residency. Four of the six artists guest choreographers traveled to South Korea and Japan in 2016 for creative research, sharing their different cultural backgrounds, life experiences and artistic aesthetics along the way. This new work reflects a journey through cultural traditions, contemporary dance aesthetics, urban city cultureand the challenges of being a foreigner.
Saturday performances on April 22 and April 29 will also include a new dance piece by CALI&CO dance, directed by Christine Cali and performed by the guest choreographers.
