Waiting for Guffman (1996) 84 minDirected by Christopher GuestChristopher Guest, Eugene Levy
Small town life and theatrical aspirations are lampooned in this mockumentary about a failed director, newly returned to Blaine Missouri from Broadway, hired to direct a community theater play entitled, Red White and Blaine. When he connives New York producer Mort Guffman into coming to critique the performance, he and his cast become convinced a positive review from Guffman will get them to Broadway. SCTV veteran Eugene Levy is especially funny as dentist-turned entertainer, Dr. Alan Pearl: “People say, you must have been the class clown, and I say no, I wasn’t. But I sat next to the class clown, and I studied him.”
