Love, Tito's Block to Block program is once again teaming up with Urban Sprouts, a local nonprofit dedicated to building healthy and thriving neighborhoods through an array of garden-focused programs, to expand on last year's garden projects within Sunnydale. Sunnydale is San Francisco's largest public housing community and is a 50-acre, 785-unit community that is home to a diverse neighborhood of more than 1,7000 people. Urban Sprouts manages three garden sites within Sunnydale, including the Cleo Nelson Community Garden, Brookdale Community Garden, and Blythedale Community Garden.
Volunteers are needed to lend a hand alongside Love, Tito's, and Urban Sprouts, and help make significant renovations to three community garden spaces. Activities at the Blythedale Community Garden, which sits atop a hillside offering bayside views, will include the creation of gathering spaces, an outdoor gardening classroom, tool shed installation, and more, all to help turn the area into a peaceful place for neighbors to relax, meditate, learn, and gather.
The Brookdale Community Garden projects will focus on transforming the nearby barren hillside into a fruit orchard, as well as the installation of a herb garden to grow specialty herbs requested by residents. First renovated back in 2020, upgrades to the Cleo Nelson Community Garden will continue this year as well. For those who are interested in getting involved but are unable to volunteer, you can donate directly to Urban Sprouts.
