Let's do a trip down to historical San Juan Bautista, Hitchcock's thrilling setting for the climax of Vertigo- The first Saturday of every month is Living History Day, when the State Park has volunteers engaging in frontier activities. We can visit Mission San Juan Bautista, founded in 1797 and a currently active Catholic church (small donations are requested). The Mission overlooks the remnants of historical El Camino Real. Nearby, the State Park contains several historical buildings including the Plaza Hotel, the blacksmith shop, granary and the Castro-Breen Adobe. We can also visit the Mission Cemetary, where more than 4300 Native Americans who converted to Christianity are buried.
I'll be packing some picnic food (bread, cheese, cold cuts, fruit)- we'll start at Leal Vineyards and taste some wine- we'll select some wine and have a picnic lunch there. We'll also go to Pietra Santa, offering a variety of 16 wines and 3 organic extra virgin olive oils.
