Victorian Valentine Ball "VVB"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
San Francisco Heritage presents the third annual Valentine-themed fundraiser on Saturday, February 9, 2019, with an emphasis on late 19th century historical approach to love, courtship, social etiquettes, entertainment, clothes, food, drink, and music. Step back in time and attend a ball at the historic Haas-Lilienthal House! Learn to dance 19th-century vintage form of waltz and polka, enjoy a buffet of delectable finger foods (sweet and savory), indulge in sugary treats at the candy bar, and play Victorian trivia games for exciting prizes! Guests will learn about love and courtship, meet and fall in-love with suitable partners from the perspective of someone living in the Victorian age, and dance in the beautiful Ballroom of The Haas-Lilienthal House. To better enjoy the experience, guests will be encouraged to take a break from modern technological devices, immerse themselves in a different era, focus on the immediate social environment, and most of all, have a good old fashioned time! Recommended costume: late Victorian or evening formal with leather sole or low heel shoes. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available at the bar. 18+ to attend; 21+ to drink.

Our Cause: Proceeds benefit the continued maintenance and stewardship of the Haas-Lilienthal House under the direction of San Francisco Heritage. The bar sales will help support a variety of Heritage education programs including the award-winning Heritage Hikes program for third-graders and their teachers, and the Discover SF! Summer Youth Program for middle school students.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
18+ to attend; 21+ to drink. We will card everyone during check-in/door entrance.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Parking in the area is very limited – generally to 2-hour street parking only, so we recommend carpooling and public transportation if possible. The Haas-Lilienthal House does not have public parking space. If you do drive in, there's a parking lot nearby on Jackson Street between Van Ness and Polk Street. (2 blocks away). Also, we are located 1-2 blocks from a Muni stop. The closest stops are at Jackson and Van Ness (47, 49,) and at Franklin and Clay or Sacramento (1).
Visit the “Trip Planner” of the https://www.sfmuni.com website for help planning your trip!
BUS: We are near Muni bus lines: 1, 12, 19, 27, 47 & 49.
BART: If you are taking BART, exit at the Civic Center station and either take a cab to Haas-Lilienthal, or walk down Grove or McAllister through the Civic Center area to Van Ness Avenue, and catch virtually any northbound bus (the near side of the street as you reach Van Ness.) Get off at Jackson, and walk one block west to Franklin – the HLH will be in the middle of the block on the west side.
CABLE CAR: We are 4 blocks from the end of the California Street Cable Car line, which ends at California & Van Ness. If you take BART from the East Bay, you can hop onto the Cable Car at the other end of the line, at Drumm & California Streets, just out of the Embarcadero BART station. In 12-15 minutes, you’ll be at Van Ness. From the end of the line, you will need to walk 1 block west, and 3 blocks north (1 block uphill, the rest is pretty flat).
