UXNight: Conversation Design

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join us for an evening to learn how to design conversational interfaces.
As machines grow smarter, we strive to make interactions more human-like and easier to use.  Conversational design is more than writing a script.  It involves critical thinking and combines various fields of UX including interaction design, voice UX, copywriting, user interface design, visual design, and system architecture.

"Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Conversation Design but Were Afraid to Ask"
Cathy Pearl, Head of Conversational Design Outreach at GoogleAuthor of Designing Voice User Interfaces (O'Reilly Media)
The term "conversational interfaces" is thrown around a lot these days, but what does it actually mean?  Will we soon be having conversations with everything around us, like our toothbrushes and trash cans? What's the difference between a chatbot and a VUI?  How do we build these highly interactive systems in the right way?
This talk will tell you what Conversation Design is and some of the best practices to make sure we get it right.

About Cathy
Cathy Pearl is Head of Conversation Design Outreach at Google, and the author of the O'Reilly book, "Designing Voice User Interfaces".  She's been designing and creating Voice User Interfaces (VUIs) for nearly 20 years and is passionate about helping everyone make the best conversational experiences possible.
Past speaking engagements include Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity, O’Reilly Bot Day, and Voice Summit. Previously, Cathy was VP of User Experience at Sensely, whose virtual nurse avatar helps people stay healthy.  She has worked on everything from programming NASA helicopter pilot simulators to designing a conversational iPad app in which Esquire magazine's style columnist tells users what they should wear on a first date.  She has an MS in Computer Science from Indiana University and and BS in Cognitive Science from UC San Diego.
