at USF Studio Theater (see times)
The University of San Francisco (USF) invites you to an evening of the arts with the Fall 2013 Dance Ensemble concert “Real Time.” Dance ensemble students will perform original pieces in the modern style. Special guest choreographer and award-winner dancer Joanna Haigood will present “Dying While Black and Brown,” a performance inspired by the Equal Justice Society’s campaign to restore 14th Amendment protection for victims of discrimination, including those on death row.The performances will portray how USF Performing Arts students successfully connect social justice to dance and movement. Joanna Haigood’s piece explores the death penalty’s unequal impact on people of color, as well as the triumph that came with their reclaim to freedom.

The USF Dance Ensemble is comprised of students who audition to perform in various concerts. Guest choreographers include nationally recognized artists who design and deliver brilliant performances with the mission of demonstrating performing arts as a tool for social justice.
