"The Mourner" is the second play to be workshopped by Custom Made Theatre Company as part of their New Play Development Program, Undiscovered Works, a project in collaboration with the EXIT Theatre, with the mutual goal of creating more direct avenues from page to stage. As part of our new play development program, performances will include a chance to give feedback to the writer, who will then use this feedback to continue evolving the play on its journey to a full production. Each performance will also give the audience a chance to provide written feedback. Please stick around and help a new work continue to grow!
Reema comes to Glade Family Funeral Home and Cemetery with an unusual request: she wants to bury the body of her cousin, the perpetrator of a gruesome terrorist attack that left dozens injured and several dead. Eleanor, the funeral home owner, refuses, and the two women are forced into a struggle over the fate of the body in this contemporary play loosely based on the myth of Antigone.
Written by Bridgette Dutta Portman, Directed by Paul Stout, with dramaturgy by Jayne Wenger.
