Training in Meditation.
What is meditation really? What are the results? What do we meditate on? How do we do it?
Each week come learn a new meditation that will lead you towards permanent peace and happiness. Learn step by step methods for successful meditation by joining in teachings with Gen Choma from The Mirror of Dharma with Additions, the most recent book by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.
May 3 - How to meditate deeply:
We should know that if we do not find the object of mediation, what to focus on, our meditation has no function - it doesn't work! Before we begin our journey into the stages of the path to enlightenment, Kadam Lamrim, we start by learning the dynamics of successful meditation.
May 10 - Meditation on the preciousness of our human life:
The purpose of this meditation is to encourage ourself to take the real meaning of our human life. By understanding how our life is so very precious, we will use it to attain permanent peace and happiness for our own sake and help others accomplish the same goal.
May 17 - Meditation on death and appreciation:
We may not be happy to hear about our death, but contemplating and meditating on death is very important for the effectiveness of our spiritual practice. If we understand we could die today and carry this wisdom, it will encourage us to take advantage of the special opportunity we now have.
May 24 - Meditation on finding refuge from future suffering:
We don't know what's going to happen to us when we die. Fear of what happens after we die can be useful and transformative because it propels us to seek refuge or protection. We can find refuge in Buddha's teachings and blessings and help from spiritual friends.
May 31 - Meditation on karma:
The purpose of this meditation is to prevent future suffering. Our mind is like a field, and performing actions is like sowing seeds in that field. The main cause of happiness is sowing virtuous seeds in our mind and the main cause of suffering is planting non-virtuous or harmless seeds in our mind.
