THEATRE LUNATICO presents: Shakespeare's TITUS ANDRONICUS

You've likely heard of the legendary bloodbath that is Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, but has its notoriety veiled you from the deeply resonant tragedy that lies at its core? Artistic Director Tina Taylor immerses Theatre Lunatico's ensemble in this bloody tragedy under the lens of our current political crisis. At a time of rising fascism and extremist agendas, hate crimes and hate-filled rhetoric, we are all fearful of where this is leading us. At the heart of our interpretation we see Aaron, marginalized and confined by vicious racism, and Lavinia, silenced and minimized by brutal misogyny. With the narrative driven by the toxic male narcissism of Saturninus and Titus, Taylor, as always, has switched genders for key characters, creating vital and inspiring roles for women as Marcia and Lucius grapple in their very different ways to bring the spiraling cycle of violence that the abuse of power begets under control. Visceral, up-close, uncompromising, this is not a play for the faint of heart, but a compelling exploration of the devastating impact of systemic oppression.
