TIDES November: A Night of Women In Music & Visual Art

SEE EVENT DETAILS
TIDES is a party dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the work of women and nonbinary folks working in music, visual art, and other media. Our next event is on Wednesday, November 28th at El Rio. Each installment of TIDES features a full lineup of music, as well as a mini-marketplace of visual artists on the back patio. Every event also raises money for a different nonprofit working in women's rights -- with a focus on issues that affect the trans, WOC, and LGBTQ communities -- so a portion of proceeds goes to organizations fighting the good fight. This month we're fundraising for La Cocina, a Bay Area organization that cultivates low-income food entrepreneurs as they formalize and grow their businesses by providing affordable commercial kitchen space, industry-specific technical assistance and access to market opportunities. La Cocina focuses primarily on women from communities of color and immigrant communities, with a vision that entrepreneurs will become economically self-sufficient and contribute to a vibrant economy doing what they love to do.----------November 28, 2018Doors: 7pm (Come check out the art market on the back patio!)Show: 8pm$10 | Rear Room MUSICKelly McFarlingKelly McFarling is an Atlanta, GA born, San Francisco-based songwriter. Her work is reflective of transitions, the wilderness, and its navigation. Sometimes she plays banjo, other times acoustic guitar. Often, she plays a Telecaster fronting her band, The Home Team, featuring pedal steel (Tim Marcus), drums (Nick Cobbett), bass (Oscar Westesson), and various other Bay Area musicians.Water Dog, McFarling’s latest release, is her most intimate and folk-leaning record to date. She recorded the album in seasonal segments of 2016. The songs were first demoed with Allen Rothschild in his bedroom in Asheville, NC, where the creaks of his wood floor and the sounds of summer winding down made their way onto the recordings through open windows and live takes. The demos became the foundation of the record, and McFarling took them back to San Francisco, where Avi Vinocur of Goodnight Texas produced and engineered the majority of the record at his home in the Sunset District. “Recording at Avi’s house gave us the time to let the songs breathe and evolve.” McFarling said of the process. “It gave us space to make decisions at our own pace. I’ve never made a record like that, and it was a really special time. These songs were written in quiet spaces that were lived in. It made sense to record them in that way.”Animal PrinceElectro R&BSub Sub ParBased out of San Francisco, Sub Sub Par decides for themselves what music should be.
