THESIS Riders & Friends: Mt Tam Gravel Exploro

SEE EVENT DETAILS
An special mixed-terrain ride for THESIS riders and friends
Join THESIS co-founder Randall R. Jacobs on a ride through some of the legendary California terrain that inspired the OB1. This social pace, no-drop 40-mile ride will start at the Golden Gate Bridge Pavilion at the southeast corner of the bridge. From there the group will roll out to Mill Valley on pavement before climbing up to the West Point Inn on dirt via Old Railroad Grade. After taking a few moments to regroup, the ride will drop down on doubletrack to Pantoll Station (bail-out point for those wanting a shorter or less technical ride) and then descend the gloriously flowy rollercoaster that is the Coastal Trail. Then, after a brief high-speed descent on Highway 1, riders will schlep back up the mountain via the switchbacks of the Dias Ridge Trail before finally rolling back to SF on road and hitting a cafe (likely Equator Fort Mason or Rapha) for coffee and pastries.
Come join our rolling community -- and bring your gravel-curious friends.

Here's what you need to know:

Start time: Meet at 9:30am, roll out 9:45am
Meeting place: Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center at the southeast corner of the bridge.
Difficulty: 40 miles, 3,500ft elevation, 3.5 hours of riding time with stops along the way to regroup. Bail-out point at Pantoll Station. Super fit riders will find this a more casual ride, while those building fitness should find it challenging but doable.
Route: https://www.strava.com/routes/16641361 (please download to your cycle computer if you have one)
Equipment Requirements: Minimum 650B x 47mm or 700C x 40mm semi-slick tires and mountain bikes shoes/pedals are recommended. You'll also want to bring a tube, pump, tool with a 6mm hex, snack (or some singles to buy snacks at the West Point Inn), and bottles (water at West Point Inn and Pantoll Station).
Parking and transit options: Here. You can also park down the hill at the west end of Crissy Field, by the side of the road, and ride up.
Rain date: Sunday, Jan 20 (the following day). We will make a decision the night before and email you.

*An RSVP is required to join* so we can communicate changes in case of rain. Limited spots available.
