The Symbionese Liberation Army and Patrcia Hearst, Queen of the Revolution

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The Symbionese Liberation Army and Patricia Hearst, Queen of the Revolution (Great Oak Press) is a new book featuring insightful investigative reporting into Patty Hearst and the SLA, by Dr. Gregory Cumming and the late Dr. Stephen Sayles. The book will be launched on Thursday, April 11 at 7:00 pm with an event at Green Apple Books, 506 Clement St in San Francisco. The event marks the 45th anniversary of SLA and the Patty Heart’s infamous holdup of the former Hibernia Bank in San Francisco on April 15, 1974.

The Symbionese Liberation Army and Patricia Hearst, Queen of the Revolution is an in-depth exploration of Patty Hearst’s kidnapping and her role in the rise and fall of SLA, a left-wing terrorist group that formed in the waning days of San Francisco Bay Area’s counterculture revolution. The SLA alienated the protest movement with its assassination of Oakland school superintendent Marcus Foster 1973 and shocked the nation with the kidnapping of heiress and U.C. Berkeley student Patty Hearst in 1974, whose radical transformation into the urban guerilla Tania was breathlessly covered by the media.

Patty Hearst's actions not only suggest she became a willing participant in the SLA after her kidnapping, but new information revealed for the first time in reporting for the book from the late Jack Scott, radical author and sports guru who was embroiled with the SLA, points to Hearst staging her own kidnapping.
