For its 15th year, The Giant Race will take place on Sunday, August 18. This year's event features 5K and 10K distances along with the return of the highly requested Half Marathon. Participants will receive an exclusive Patrick Bailey bobblehead (now sold out), finishers medal, race shirt and commemorative race bib. For runners who are unable to join in person, there is also a virtual option to run from anywhere in the world. Giants great Shawn Estes will be the official race starter with emcees Amy G and Franco Finn.
To highlight the race's continued focus and commitment to both mental and physical health, the annual Health and Wellness Expo will take place on Saturday, August 17. From 8am - 11am, Challenged Athletes Foundation and Össur will be hosting a mobility clinic on the field open to all runners. The Expo will also include an extensive range of other fitness activities on the field, including a yoga class presented by lululemon as well as a Family Challenge and Kids Race presented by Move Your Body Calm Your Mind. The Health & Wellness Expo will also feature activations including the Golden State Valkyries, US Air Force Special Warfare, Volo Sports, Rivalz, GoGo SqueeZ and more.
The 2024 San Francisco Giant Race has partnered with Mobilize Love which exists to show up and give hope to Bay Area families. The Giant Race is also supporting Imagining More Foundation and Girls on the Run, aiming to remove barriers and provide greater access to female athletics and mental health services.
"Growing up in the 1980s, I remember watching major sports on television - never seeing women play," said Shannon Rowbury. "This is why the idea of pursuing a career as a professional athlete never occurred to me. Now as I see my own children grow, I am struck by the profound impact of female representation in sports, which is why it is important for girls and women to always be imagining more."
