The sacroiliac joints are formed between the sacrum and the two iliac bones on each side of the pelvis. They are essential for effective load transfer between the spine and legs, while also providing stable (yet flexible) support to the upper body. Because of its structural wedge-shaped characteristics, the sacrum is a self-locking system and is a keystone within the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex. This complex involves a complete interdependence of the various elements of the pelvic ring so that any impairment at any level affects the structure as a whole and decreases its mechanical capacity. Balancing between stability and mobility is the key to this keystone structure. All yoga poses, whether standing, seated, supine, or inverted, will depend on the integrity of this area. In this workshop standing, supine and seated poses will be taught, creating freedom and space in the joint while maintaining pelvic and hip stability.
Open to all Iyengar students with at least one year of experience.
