This day long course will introduce you to the essentials and foolproof basics of organic gardening. The gardener’s adage is “feed the soil, not the plant” Healthy soil is the basis for organic gardening and the focus of the first part of this class will be the many methods of breathing life into your native bay area soils. IWe’ll learn about soil types, tilling and amending, composting and sheet mulching, cover crops and more. In the second half of the class we will focus on plants: seeds and starts sun and shade, water, weeds and garden planning. There will be lots to touch and feel, garden tour, and break out exercises. We’ll brew compost tea, learn how to mix seed starting medium and plant some seeds to take home. Bring your questions and get your hands dirty! This class is for beginning gardeners and those wanting to learn more about organic perspectives and techniques
