Should you desire to have dinner at Delfina, but you'd prefer a chic, cozy, industrial loft space in SOMA run by hot women with flowers in their hair, check out The Public. Opened by alums of Delfina, 42 Degrees, and other well-loved haunts, The Public is a very nice addition to the corner of 11th and Folsom, where Wa-Ha-Ka used to cater to the dot com crowd. Smart wines, like the Mosel Saar Ruwer Doctor Loosen Riesling ($7/gls), and the Graff Chalone Viognier ($9/gls), accompany a small, homey menu of fresh, simple items like an arugula salad with bacon, apples and blue cheese ($7), homemade pappardelle with rabbit sugo ($11), and Maine hake with mashers and sweet pea broth ($15). Unobtrusive hip-hop and such plays at low volume, candles glow, and the chocolate bread pudding ($5) is almost as good as my friend Charlotte's!
