A new spirit of advocacy and activism to elevate women’s political voice – as voters, candidates, leaders, and activists— is being felt worldwide, and especially so across Asia. With a number of elections taking place in 2017 in the region, women’s leadership and active engagement in public and political life is critical to shaping Asia's future.
The Asia Foundation has an impressive track record of supporting women’s groups and women’s movements to ensure strong representation of female candidates for political office as well as women’s safety and security in voting. Beyond formal political participation is the vital role grassroots activists play in advocating for policy and legal reform. Crucial in all of this is a wider commitment to shifting power and resources to women in order to achieve gender equality and engaging men as allies in this work.
In an interactive session facilitated by The Asia Foundation’s Women’s Empowerment Program Director, the Foundation’s country representatives from Timor Leste, Indonesia, and Vietnam will share insights and priorities to advance women’s political participation and gender equality in Asia in the time ahead.
Light refreshments will be served.
