The Magic of Composting: SATURDAY, APRIL 5th 2014 (11:00am-2:00pm)
Turn your food scraps at home into to Black Gold for your garden. Delve Into Types of Composting & Techniques for creating a healthy compost. This workshop will help clear the mystique of composting and give a clear process for doing it yourself. Know what to look for to have rich juicy soil.
SkillBuild: Interface with tools past peak oil/coal. Learn to skillfully use non-electric hand tools to build out the compost system. Build a Worm Bin & a three-part Compost Pile.

Avid Permaculture Garden-Farmer, whose focus is in carbon sequestration/mineralization in soil for the health of the planet, and working with alternative methods for food production. He works in native plant landscaping, and has consulted and worked on various organic farms.

MmmmMycology: SUNDAY, APRIL 6th 2014
(11:00am-2:00pm)
Mushrooms as Edibles and BioFilters, make and take home personal kits to share delicious edibles with your family, friends, and neighbors. Learn which materials and conditions Oysters, Shiitakes, and Lion’s Mane thrive on. Explore some of their many culinary uses and medicinal properties, plus learn how important fungus is to our ecology and techniques to minimize human impact.
SkillBuild: Make personal mushroom kits. Learn how to inoculate logs (plugging with culinary varieties), to create edible landscaping at Oakland Roots. And build large Community Edible Bags (w/ descriptions) to hang on the fence, for passers-by to harvest their own.

Has been exploring and studying the world of mycology and herbalism for the benefits of health and well being to create balance in human ecological interactions. To lessen human impact using a whole systems or Gaian approach, she brings this understudied field to light. She is an active farmer/food forester, food justice and land reclamation advocate.


Fees to Cover Workshop Costs:
-One workshop- $15
-Both Days- $25
-Bring a Dish That Serves at least 10 ppl or bring/donate tools or materials- $10/single day $20/both days (or better)
-*Neighbors within a 5 Block radius get their first class FREE
-4 work trade positions per workshop are available, for those with lack of funds. please contact us In Advance, if you are interested in one of these positions. serious inquires only. [email protected]

Items we are looking for, for donation or lend:
Cooking Materials- Bunsen burners, pans & implements
2–5gal clean paint buckets with lids
First Aid Kits
wheel barrow

Bring Your Lovely Self + Friends, and if you can, Some Food to Share. Wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. It might rain, we will be there rain or shine. And remember to bring your own food and drink utensils.
