The extinction of America's middle class explored in
SSU production of "The Hummingbird Wars"

WHO: Sonoma State University Department of Theatre Arts & Dance presents

WHAT: "The Hummingbird Wars"
By Carter Lewis / Directed by Judy Navas

Carter Lewis’s new satire captures the outrageous and harrowing extremes of life when a man and his family fight against the threat of middle-class extinction in the 21st Century. Ripped from today's headlines the play examines the consequences of evolving realities of modern life in the suburbs.

Hot from the stages of Miami's Arts Garage, "The Hummingbird Wars" follows the frustrations of an Afghan war-hero father and husband as he battles teenage cyber-bullying, pharmaceutical and cable conspiracy theories, "enemy" bulldozers and post-traumatic stress disorder. His wife is trying to save the neighborhood from redevelopment; his daughter is dealing with cyber-bullying from a nasty ex-boyfriend; and his son is mysteriously finding guns and taking them to school.

Playwright Carter Lewis will be the guest at a pre-performance talk at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.
