The GLIDE Legacy Committee presents: A Virtual Social Justice Film Festival

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join the GLIDE Legacy Committee for an exciting, thought-provoking evening of documentary shorts that demonstrate the resilience and grace of the human spirit. The virtual screening will be followed by a live panel discussion and Q&A with the Filmmakers.

Program:
Sister Hearts
By Mohammad Gorjestani
Maryam Henderson-Uloho spent thirteen years in prison in Louisiana, seven in solitary confinement. After her release she struggled to find housing or employment. She began selling secondhand goods out of a suitcase on a street corner in New Orleans. In just three years, she grew her business to a brick-and-mortar thrift store--one that also provides housing and employment for other formerly-incarcerated women. She calls those women--and her store--Sister Hearts.

Tangled Roots
By Samantha Knowles
"Tangled Roots" follows Kentucky State Representative Attica Scott as she fights to pass a bill that would ban black hair discrimination statewide. Against a national backdrop of similar bills being proposed, heard, and passed across the country, as well as countless examples of black men and women being fired, expelled, and maligned for their hair, Representative Scott aims to dismantle a system of discrimination against black people who are penalized for something seemingly innocuous -- their hair.

Vote Neil
By Honora Talbott
Two gay Marine vets in Birmingham, Alabama battle their hardest mission: Election Week 2018. Neil Rafferty is a first time politician running to be the first openly gay man in the Alabama Legislature. Mike Rudulph is his fiancé and campaign manager searching for purpose. An intimate portrait about politics, the Southern LGBTQ experience, and one incredible love story.

How Far is Home
By Apo W. Bazidi
In the midst of Trump's immigration ban, a teenage refugee Ahmed and his sister Ruba find a home at a Cleveland school for immigrants. While they struggle to pursue their dreams, current immigration policies weigh heavy on their minds.
