The Gala 2017: An Evening Benefiting Brain Aneurysm & AVM Awareness

We invite you to join us on June 10th for The Gala, a 3-way cooperative event showcasing a joint focus on research and awareness for brain aneurysm, AVM, and hemorrhagic stroke as well as neurosurgical care of indigent people.

Hosted by actor/director Zach Braff, who is best known for playing the role of Dr. John ‘J.D.’ Dorian on the hit television series, Scrubs (2001), Zach will be our emcee, while athletes and celebrities from across the country join patrons in an evening of fine dining, celebration, and memories to last a lifetime. Braff is also known for his writing, directing and acting roles in the films Garden State (2004) and Wish I Was Here (2014).

In collaboration with The Aneurysm and AVM Foundation and Mission:BRAIN, we are proud to announce our first William L. Young Achievement Award recipient, Dr. Michael Lawton. Dr. Lawton is the Tong-Po Kan Endowed Chair, Professor of neurological surgery, and Vice-Chairman of the department at The University of California, San Francisco. As chief of one of the busiest cerebrovascular centers on the west coast, Dr. Lawton is being recognized for his outstanding advancement and treatment of brain aneurysms, AVM’s, and hemorrhagic strokes. In July, Dr. Lawton will embark on a new journey as the Chairman of Neurosurgery and President/CEO of Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, where he will replace his retiring mentor, Dr. Robert Spetzler. It is our honor to celebrate his 20 years at UCSF.

The Joe Niekro Foundation is committed to supporting patients and families, research, treatment and awareness of brain aneurysms, AVM’s and hemorrhagic strokes. We provide education on the risk factors, causes and treatments of these conditions, while funding the advancement of neurological research.
