Death of A Young Man
(Un jeune se tue)
by Christophe Honoré
Translated by Erik Butler and Kimberly Jannarone

A country road. A car crash. Nocturnal rituals ensue, releasing phantoms past and present.
It’s pitch black on a country road in the middle of summer. At the edge of a forest, three girls stand around a burning car, hunched over Gaëlle’s mutilated body. Fragments from the past and present resurface, which spark a series of supernatural events. Rituals ensue, and then ghosts return in this troubling story about love, death and phantoms. This play will be read at 2:00pm.

One Upon Another
(Les uns sur les autres)
by Léonore Confino
Translated by Emily-Jane Cohen and Michelle Haner

A fast-talking, fast-sleeping, fast-eating, satire that exposes the absurdity of a modern family, whose overabundance of electronic devices connects them to everything except each other.
A father, a mother, a grandfather, two teenagers and their dog live together in a house of good standing in Rueil Malmaison (outside Paris). Household electronics shine, bleep and beep in every room of their ultra utilitarian home. But despite the loud, over-stimulating pace of the household, communication becomes so abstract that the very meaning of language is lost, along with the lost arts of eating, sleeping, and sex. But then again, who needs such antiquated forms of recreation?
Everything changes when their Grandfather dies and a great secret erupts. This painful revelation paradoxically unites the family with an electroshock so powerful that it injects a sudden consciousness that removes what habits and reflexes had previously cast aside. Family members re-inhabit rooms, words are re-organized into syntax, questions finally require real answers, and a meaningful silence pervades their home. This play will be read at 7:30pm.
