THIS EVENT HAS ENDED
Presented by JCCSF Foodways and Prubechu’

Prubechu’ began with a vision: business partners Chef Shawn Naputi and General Manager Shawn Camacho dreamed of bringing a piece of their native Guam to San Francisco. Their culinary venture is the first Guamanian restaurant in the Bay Area (and one of the first in the US). They’ve recently transitioned from a brick-and-mortar restaurant to a pop-up, and you can catch them at the JCCSF for a special meal. Both Shawns were born and raised in Guam, an unincorporated and organized territory of the US in Micronesia, and both are of indigenous Chamorro descent. Guamanian cuisine is unique due to its variety of outside influences including Spain, Japan and the Americas. Throughout this event, we will reflect on Chamorro cuisine and its influences as well as Guam’s tumultuous and complex history.

The menu will be posted soon, and vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available with advance notice. Please note that this will be a family-style meal. Please email the JCCSF Box Office with special dietary needs or if you need ADA seating.

Be sure to join us for our last Foodways of the season on April 2 with Luz Calvo and Catrióna Rueda Esquibel of Decolonize Your Diet.

This season, our Foodways Series focuses on the stories of chefs from three indigenous communities: Native American chef Chrystal Wahpepah; Guamanian Chamorro duo behind Prubechu, Shawn Naputi and Shawn Camacho; and Pre-colonial Meso-American food traditions with Professors Luz Calvo and Catrióna Rueda Esquibel. Foodways celebrates the diverse communities that have left their mark on the Bay Area's vibrant culinary scene. Join us as we shine the spotlight on locals who share their family recipes and stories through cooking demonstrations, tastings and conversation
