The Cameraman (1928) 69 minDirected by Edward Sedgwick, Buster KeatonBuster Keaton, Marceline Day
Buster Keaton is at his deadpan best in this silent about a tin-type photographer besotted with a newsreel office worker and hoping to impress her by landing a job as a cameraman. In addition to Keaton’s genius for comedy, the movie includes some sly digs at film-making and delightful glimpses of New York in the 1920s, including an extended and pivotal scene in New York’s Chinatown. For several years this was considered a “lost” film after a print was destroyed in the 1965 MGM Vault fire, but a complete version was discovered in Paris 1968, and another higher quality print in 1991. Come appreciate this “found” classic!
