The Barrel Room is a full scale restaurant and wine bar San Francisco, located in the heart of the Financial District, and was recently named one of the best wine bars in San Francisco. The Barrel Room boasts three unique spaces including a beautiful main dining room with open kitchen, a wine bar, and a downstairs speakeasy lounge. Highlights of the engaging 60-seat Barrel Room dining room and wine bar's rustic modern décor include a large skylight, a redwood-topped bar, old growth redwood accents, panels and facings, a rich gray color scheme, bench seating, handmade glass globe pendant lights, and a handmade glass globe chandelier mounted in an atrium over the main dining area. The speakeasy has a prohibition-era aesthetic with a piano, chess table, renovated old bank vault, and library room with upholstered lounge seating throughout.
Sommelier/proprietor Sarah Trubnick, Executive Chef Manuel Hewitt, and partners Carolyn Johnson and Stephen Deyton opened The Barrel Room San Francisco on Sansome Street in May of 2015. At The Barrel Room, there is an emphasis on educational tasting flights and a wine-friendly food menus by Chef Hewitt meant to showcase their regional focus which changes quarterly to ensure there is always something new. Previous focuses include Latin America, France, Iberia, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Italy, and the United States.
A hallmark of The Barrel Room is their commitment to seeking out hard-to-find and small production wines from around the world. The wine list features an extensive selection of educational flights arranged by region, varietal or flavor profile, all appropriate for pairing with the current regional food focus. The wines from these flights are available by the glass (more than 50) and the extensive bottle list affords guests a choice of more than 200 international wines organized by characteristics such as light and crisp, aromatic, bold, plush, spicy or earthy. The cocktail menu features 10 to 12 libations linked to the current regional food focus, with an additional year-round menu of original specialty cocktails in the lounge.
Reservations are recommended and can be made via OpenTable.com. The Barrel Room is also the namesake of their East Bay location in Rockridge, featuring similar aesthetics, wines and regional focus.
